Samsung Omnia II Verizon Wireless 3 …….. The design of the Samsung Omnia II is similar to that of many other touch-screen smartphones, with a standard rectangular shape, rounded edges, and a black/metallic color scheme with a slight reddish tinge on its back cover. It’s not the most portable smartphone on the market, weighing 4.76 ounces and measuring 4.69 inches tall by 2.35 inches wide by 0.52 inches thick. It still should fit in most pockets, though.
The highlight of the Omnia II’s design is undoubtedly its large 3.7-inch AMOLED touch-screen display with 800×480 resolution. The display produces superb graphics, and its AMOLED distinction means that it can provide such excellent graphics while still using less power than conventional displays found on most phones.
The screen itself is responsive to the touch, and the phone has a built-in accelerometer to automatically change its orientation from portrait to landscape mode when moved on its side. The full QWERTY touch-screen keyboard is excellent for messaging and can be viewed in either portrait or landscape mode.
The keyboard comes with a bonus called Swype technology, which lets you slide your finger from letter to letter as you type, in a fluid motion, as opposed to tapping each key individually. This Swype method may take a while to get used to, but once you get accustomed to it, you will find it can save you time while messaging and typing emails.
The touch-screen works well with the phone’s TouchWiz interface, which allows you to easily customize your home screen by dragging shortcuts where you want them. The interface is user friendly and makes it possible to access your most important apps and functions without much hassle. Finalizing the Omnia II’s design are keys below the touch-screen for Talk, End/Power, and a Menu key.
The Samsung Omnia II is a safe pick for Verizon Wireless customers looking for a do-it-all smartphone. The design is superb, thanks to its large, vibrant touch-screen display. The interface is well done, and the feature set is solid. Fans of messaging and multimedia will definitely want to give this smartphone a long look.
