The Samsung Omnia II is a smartphone sequel to its predecessor released a year ago from the manufacturer. This new edition offers Verizon customers plenty of features in the way of practicality and entertainment, in addition to a design that is hard to top. You can pick up the Samsung Omnia II for $199.99 after rebates and a two-year agreement with Verizon Wireless.

The basic features of the Omnia II include a speakerphone, a calculator, an alarm clock, a stopwatch, and a countdown timer. To help keep you organized there is a calendar, a scheduler, a to-do list, and a memo book. A voice recorder is also on board to help you remember all those important thoughts that pop into your head from time to time. World travelers will find that the phone’s world clock and currency converter can definitely come in handy as well.

You can store as many contacts as will fit within the phone’s 8 GB of internal memory. For each contact, you can input various phone numbers, a street address, email addresses, notes, and more. You can sort your contacts into separate groups and also allocate a photo and a ringtone to each. If you aren’t pleased with the standard ringtones that come on the phone, you can always download more from Verizon Wireless.

Samsung Omnia IIMoving beyond the basic features, we find support for multi-party calling and voice commands for quick phone usage while on the go. Bluetooth 2.0 is also available on the Omnia II, with support for such profiles as hands-free kits, stereo headsets, file transfer, dial-up networking, object push, and more.

One fee-based extra feature is that of visual voice mail. Visual voice mail comes on the smartphone at a monthly cost, and allows you to view your voice mail messages in a format similar to an email inbox so that you can skip unimportant messages and cycle right to the ones that need your most attention without having to hear each one, as with standard voice mail.

Another valuable feature offered by the Samsung Omnia II is integrated GPS. When used with the VZ Navigator service, you can get turn-by-turn voice-guided directions to help you get to your destination in the quickest way possible. The GPS also works in conjunction with Verizon’s Family Locator service that helps you keep tabs on your loved ones’ locations, and is particularly a useful tool for worried parents.
